For years people have thought of Ecuador and Guatemala as places to learn Spanish and save money on accommodation, but with the recent devaluation of the Mexican Peso, Mexico is becoming a very interesting alternative for Spanish Learners.
San Cristóbal de Las Casas in Chiapas is right next to Guatemala and is a place that has plenty of tourist attractions as well as the uniqueness of Mayan culture, inexpensive food and accommodation and a good mixture of international tourists and Ex-pats.
The most interesting advantage of Chiapas is that if you go to Guatemala there is a price divide between foreign tourist and locals, so after you studies you only interact with fellow travellers or at most with your local family or landlord. In México there is a larger economic spectrum so you have more options to mingle with locals, find volunteer jobs or simply become a local 😉
We are starting a pilot group for Spanish students. The idea is to create a program that will help you learn enough Spanish for a full immersion in the local community. Are you ready for this challenge?
